Located in one of Turin’s historic Liberty districts, the project involves the comprehensive renovation and adaptive reuse of a heritage residential building, combining the preservation of its architectural character with the requirements of contemporary living. The intervention will deliver twelve residential units through the complete reorganization and enhancement of the existing structure.
The project preserves the building’s historic identity through the careful restoration and cleaning of the primary façades, while the courtyard-facing elevations accommodate the main architectural and energy-efficiency upgrades. These include the installation of external thermal insulation, high-performance windows, and enlarged balconies designed to improve both comfort and the relationship between the apartments and the outdoor spaces. A new vertical circulation system, including the addition of an elevator, reorganizes internal access and circulation while enhancing the building’s existing architectural features. The complete reconstruction of the roof and the conversion of the attic level will create additional residential units, illuminated by a series of new dormer windows designed in continuity with the building’s original architectural language.
A key element of the intervention is the transformation of the inner courtyard. A new underground parking garage will free the surface area from vehicular use, allowing its roof to become a series of private gardens serving the ground-floor residences. This strategy redefines the courtyard as a green, quiet, and high-quality residential environment. The project represents a careful balance between preservation and transformation, restoring new life to a historic building while introducing contemporary standards of accessibility, energy performance, and residential quality.
